ScCO2 processing

Table of contents

One of HCM Medical’s core technologies is Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SFE) technology. Operating this equipment in both our production area and R&D department, we have the capacity for tissue processing, extraction, impregnation of (bio)materials, and sterilization using CO2.

Tissue Processing

At HCM Medical, scCO2 processing stands at the forefront of our tissue processing capabilities. Applying the power of supercritical carbon dioxide, we have optimized the art of processing tissues from both human and animal origins. This technology ensures the preservation of bioactive compounds and mechanical properties, allowing us to produce high-tech medical products with the required specifications.

Extraction and impregnation of biomaterials

Our Supercritical Fluid Extraction technology enables the precise extraction of (bio)materials, such as extracellular matrix (ECM) and collagen, from tissues. This process preserves the integrity of these materials, providing a material that can be processed into (bio)medical products. The result is a range of innovative products with maintained bioactivity and structural integrity.

Sterilization

Terminal sterilization of a medical product is of major importance for patient safety. Our scCO2 technology extends its capabilities to terminal sterilization, ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of safety. This method effectively eliminates microbial contaminants while maintaining the structural and functional integrity of the final medical products. This is great advantage in comparison to common sterilization techniques.

HCM Medical aims to utilize scCO2 processing not only for the production of existing tissue products but also as a dynamic tool in our R&D department. Here, we continually explore and develop new opportunities that this technology offers.
